Six matches left for Blues

The Washburn volleyball team has lost all three of its losses this season by the score of 3-2. And in the next two and a half weeks, the Lady Blues will have a chance to get even with each of those teams, beginning with Nebraska-Omaha at 7 p.m. tonight in Lee Arena and Central Missouri at 7 p.

'Runners on scoring tear

The early struggle to score goals looks to be well in the past.

After battling to get pucks in the net earier this season, the Topeka RoadRunners used a strong effort on all sides this past weekend to accumulate 20 goals in three games against the Albert Lea Thunder, including a 10-0 romp this past Saturday night at the Kansas Expocentre's Landon Arena.

Washburn's form of wildcat formation formidable

The saying, "what's old is new again," is always heard when talking about the hot offense of the moment, and the run-gun offense is no different.

Now, many readers might not realize that they have heard of this offense before. Head coach Craig Schurig and the Washburn football team call the offense the "run-gun" but most football fans commonly know it as the wildcat offense.

Intramurals introduces bouldering

The Washburn Student Recreation and Wellness Center offers a plethora of intramural activities for students to choose from. And each year, it adds new ones including the rock wall bouldering contest, taking place at the SRWC from 4pm - 8 p.m., Nov. 9-12.

John Cummings, SRWC program coordinator, said Rock wall bouldering is an aspect of rock climbing that is in a much safer environment being only two or three feet off the ground.

Gorilla warfare:

Beginning the season with a 5-2 record, the Washburn football team had played some good games. However, Saturday afternoon at home in Yager Stadium the No. 20 Ichabods crushed the Pittsburg State Gorillas 55-3 and coach Craig Schurig said the team finally put it all together.

Washburn win not pretty in pink

Almost every time the Washburn volleyball team wins a home volleyball game, it stays out on the court to celebrate with friends and family. Tuesday night after they defeated Northwest Missouri 3-1 on PINK OUT night in Lee Arena, the team went straight for the locker room for about 10 minutes, showing clearly something wasn't right.

WU offense hopes to keep rolling vs. Bearcats

Dane Simoneau and the Washburn Ichabod football team set or tied several records last week in their 55-3 victory against the Pittsburg Gorillas. And the Ichabods are hoping they can keep it rolling for their game against the conference-leading Northwest Bearcats at 1:30 p.

Goalie leaps into starting role

It's hard to assume the starting role of a team when little notice is given, but Evan Karembelas of the Topeka RoadRunners did just that to start this season.

With an 8-2-2 record so far this year, Karembelas helped the 'Runners carry the load while expected starter Cooper Frederick was out with an injury.

Milking it for what it's worth

As a child, mid-fielder Lauren 'Pippi' Henry, sold a cow to pay for a trip to a summer soccer camp at Kansas University.

The cow more than paid for the camp, which was fortunate because Pippi's high school, Blue Valley Randolph, did not, and does not, have a soccer program.
